Thus, it would be really unfair to ignore the significance of the Benetton Group as far as the promotion of Formula One is concerned. This Benetton Group entered in Formula 1 as a sponsor company. It backed up Tyrell in 1983, Alfa Romeo in 1984 and Toleman in 1985. Benetton Formula Ltd formed much later in 1985 with the selling of Toleman and the Spirit teams to the Benetton family. And, the new team began its journey with BMW engines though later on it shifted to Ford. The success of Benetton Group is usually identified with the success of Michael Schumacher who bought victory 19 times to its team. In the 1994 season, it was accused of violating certain FIA specifications by ignoring the ban on electronic aids especially Launch Control and Traction Control. Launch Control software was found in the Benetton B194 cars. But, all these controversies actually failed to malign the image of the Benetton Group which is still known for its immense contributions in popularizing Formula One.
