The BAT or British American Tobacco was established in the year 1902. James Buchanan Duke was in charge of BAT. With the passing of time the British American Tobacco became the partner of American Tobacco that was compelled to sell shares to the British American Tobacco. BAT captured the markets of Souza Cruz in Brazil. It was through BAT that Brown and Williamson was bought to America.
Among various measures taken by BAT is its sponsoring the motor races. It sponsored the F1 events till the year 1974. BAT also purchased various retail companies. The year 1983 watched BAT sponsoring the Formula One events for once again. BAT also purchased the global rights of Lucky Strike. Since then it has also been known as the British American Tobacco (Lucky Strike). The BAT also conglomerated with Zurich Insurance in 1997.
The impact of the merger was the expansion of the products of British American Tobacco throughout the world. It continues to buy the rival companies. Along with, the company also worked in joint ventures. The year 1999 witnessed the takeover of Roothmans International by BAT. The subsidiary of BAT– the British American Racing also started a program associated with Formula One. The company used Lucky Strike as its brand.
Lucky Strike is a name that is associated with the American brand of cigarettes. In 1871 the brand was introduced. It has its markets in the United States of America. However in the year of 2006 the cigarettes of the brand were banned in North America. But it continues its distribution with the help of BAT in the places that are under the control of British American Tobacco.
